How long do preserved flowers, dried flowers and moss last?
Posted by Elodie Kanitzky on
In short: With proper handling, preserved and dried flowers and foliage last about 2 to 3 years. Preserved moss (reindeer moss, Iceland moss, forest moss) lasts 5 to 10 years.
| Product | Estimated shelf life |
|---|---|
| Preserved roses, hydrangeas, gypsophila | 2–3 years |
| Preserved foliage (eucalyptus, ferns, ruscus) | 2–3 years |
| Dried flowers and grasses (pampas grass, lagurus, phalaris) | 2–3 years |
| Preserved moss | 5–10 years |
What shortens their life?
- Direct sunlight: colours fade.
- Air-conditioning airflow: flowers dry out and become brittle.
- Rooms below 12 °C or above 80 % humidity: preserved flowers may release liquid.
- Frequent handling or moving.
Is it worth it for retailers? Yes. The products need neither water nor cooling, so there is almost no loss in transport, storage or sales. Projects can be prepared well in advance.
